Collection: Helen Tabor

Helen Tabor is a Scottish painter based in the Scottish Borders, whose expressive paintings explore the interplay of colour, movement and atmosphere. Working primarily in oil on canvas or board, her subjects range from the landscapes of southern Scotland to intimate still lifes and figurative compositions.

Her distinctive approach begins with a richly textured collage base, upon which layers of bold, energetic brushwork are gradually built and refined. Traces of the underlying layers remain visible, lending her paintings a sense of depth, spontaneity and vitality.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, music and family life, as well as artists including William McTaggart, Joan Eardley and Picasso, Tabor brings a personal and intuitive sensibility to her work. Her paintings balance expressive freedom with thoughtful observation, capturing not simply the appearance of a subject, but something of its character, rhythm and emotional resonance.
