Collection: Akiko Matsuda

Akiko Matsuda is a ceramic artist from Tokyo, Japan. After studying ceramic sculpture at Tama Art University, she moved to the UK in 2018, where her journey with clay has continued to evolve through encounters with new places, people and ways of making. She now runs ViViVi Studio, an independent pottery studio in Leith, Edinburgh.

Her practice explores the possibilities that emerge through the meeting of materials and forms. Using clays from various origins, she creates wheel-thrown circular forms that are cut and reassembled into new structures. Through this process, the materials come together to reveal unexpected expressions, exploring how transformation can open up new possibilities within ceramics.
