Collection: Elizabeth Cameron

Elizabeth Cameron graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1968 and has combined a lifelong painting practice with a career in teaching. Over the years, her work has been exhibited in the places she has called home, reflecting the landscapes and architecture that have shaped her artistic journey.

While living in Sydney, Elizabeth held annual solo exhibitions on the university campus for five consecutive years. The striking architecture of the campus buildings and the richness of Australia’s native flora became key sources of inspiration during this period.

After returning to Perthshire, she exhibited with Frames Contemporary Gallery, the Aberfeldy Gallery, and the annual summer exhibition in Dunkeld. During her time there, she also created a series of bestselling Christmas cards featuring Dunkeld Cathedral over a four-year period.

Now based in the Scottish Borders, Elizabeth exhibits regularly with the Torrance Gallery in Edinburgh and formerly with the Melrose Gallery. She also contributes annually to the Macmillan Art Show.

Painting remains central to Elizabeth’s life, with inspiration drawn from both cultivated and natural landscapes. Flowers grown in her own garden — particularly hollyhocks and lilies — have inspired many of her floral works, while holidays on Scotland’s west coast have led to atmospheric seascapes and distant mountain scenes. Closer to home, the ever-changing Borders landscape continues to provide endless subject matter throughout the seasons, especially in spring when the vivid yellow of oilseed rape transforms familiar countryside views into dramatic compositions.

For Elizabeth, art is not simply a profession but an essential part of everyday life: “Without art on the walls or an easel, life would be very dull.”
