Established in Edinburgh in 1970, The Torrance Gallery has spent more than five decades championing distinctive contemporary art.

Today, we bring that legacy forward through a changing programme of exhibitions and a growing roster of emerging and established artists from Scotland and beyond.

Alan Cameron, A Legacy

Artist. Architect. Aesthete


Alan Cameron (1950-2025) brought together a lifelong sensitivity to landscape, architecture and atmosphere. Working principally in pastel, Cameron found enduring inspiration in Scotland and Italy, distilling each place through colour, structure and light.


The Torrance Gallery is proud to represent his estate and present works from across his career.

New to Us - Ben Hopkins

Born in Edinburgh in 2003, Ben Hopkins is a young Scottish painter whose work is rooted in direct observation of landscape, light and atmosphere.


Working primarily en plein air and exclusively from life, he captures the fleeting character of a place and moment, from quiet natural landscapes to the energy of the built environment, combining rigorous training with an immediate and highly responsive approach to painting.

Returning Artist

We’re delighted to welcome Tony Griffin back to The Torrance Gallery. Tony last showed with us in spring 2025, and after reconnecting at the Pittenweem Arts Festival this summer, we’re pleased to be showing his work once again. His atmospheric, impressionistic paintings capture cityscapes and landscapes through light, colour and a wonderfully painterly touch.
