YJ Han

The subject matter of her painting is the tranquillity, stillness, and solitude of nature. Her landscape paintings reflect the harmony between nature and feeling, capturing psychological shifts through colour and texture. She expresses her feelings about moments in the landscape and she celebrates the change of nature through the four seasons with warm and vibrant colours.

She often paints the sea, wild flowers, trees and hills. She enjoys layering different colours and building up rich surfaces on her work. This process is a kind of meditation for
her and such an important element for her work.

She was born in South Korea and studied the drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art, and she currently lives and works in Edinburgh.
