Julie Dumbarton

Julie Dumbarton is a contemporary British artist based near Penrith in Cumbria, where she lives and works surrounded by the landscapes that inspire her distinctive abstract paintings. Having lovingly restored an old farm and created wildflower meadows across the surrounding land, Julie draws directly from the colours, textures and changing seasons of the Cumbrian countryside.

Working with a unique mixed-media technique, Julie layers oil paint and paper before tearing back sections of the surface to reveal richly textured, multi-dimensional compositions. Her vibrant abstract landscapes and woodscapes capture the essence of nature through bold colour, movement and depth, creating works that are both expressive and atmospheric.

Inspired by a lifelong connection to the Lake District, Julie's artistic practice is rooted in memories of exploring hills, valleys and wild places. Her highly sought-after paintings are collected internationally and she has built a dedicated following through her popular Instagram presence, where she shares insights into her creative process and rural studio life.
