Collection: David Wright

David Wright is a studio potter based in Redditch, Worcestershire with connections to North East Lincolnshire. He was born and brought up in Cleethorpes and studied at Grimsby School of Art in the mid-1980s. He gained a first-class honours degree in 3D Design (Ceramics) from Wolverhampton Polytechnic and a Master’s Degree in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art.

A 27-year career in secondary education followed, teaching design & technology. In 2021 David took early retirement from teaching, where he revisited his earlier interests in ceramics. He uses hand-building techniques such as press moulding, extruding, and slabbing to make individual components that are then assembled. Recently he has been producing diminutive sculptural work with a fishy theme, reflecting his formative years in a northern seaside town.

David’s ceramics are in a number of galleries around the country as well as in private collections here and abroad, including America, Ireland, France, Japan and New Zealand.
