There are moments in nature when a single tree stands alone, suspended between storm and radiance, rooted in a luminous field beneath a fractured sky. It is this moment - this quiet tension between fragility and strength - that inspired Elena Guillaumin’s Lonely Trees Collection.

Each painting in this series is a portrait, not of a landscape, but of a presence. A solitary tree becomes a witness: to shifting seasons, to passing storms, to the silent endurance of time. Light breaks through darkness in gentle defiance, casting the tree not as a subject, but as a symbol - of resilience, of stillness, of survival.

Elena has long been fascinated by the emotional power of trees. To her, they carry an ancient energy, a grounded wisdom that speaks without words. They stand through wind, rain, and winter, yet continue to reach toward the light. In these paintings, she explores that energy through colour, texture, and atmosphere, using light as the true protagonist of each scene.

Many works in the collection are named after Greek and Celtic gods - Eos, Zeus,  Aphrodite, Apollo, Freia - or after emotions such as Warrior, Survivor, Battler, The Watcher of Seasons... These names reflect the inner character of each tree. Some radiate softness, others strength; some hold the calm of dawn, others the fire of a storm. Each title is chosen to honour the spirit the tree embodies.

The Lonely Trees Collection is ultimately a meditation on resilience. A reminder that even in solitude, there is beauty. Even in stillness, there is power. And even in the darkest sky, light finds its way through.
