From the Artist
This painting was inspired by a four-day trek through the Andes, crossing high mountain passes where the altitude made even the simplest tasks difficult. With the air so thin, lighting a fire became nearly impossible, and meals were often eaten cold along the route.
The journey culminated in a dawn arrival at the Sun Gate overlooking Machu Picchu — a moment of stillness and reward after days of climbing through the dramatic Andean landscape. The work reflects both the physical intensity of the trek and the extraordinary atmosphere of encountering Machu Picchu at first light.
